When people think about Art their minds often jump to painting. Of course “Art” includes so much more but something about the word “Art” makes our minds go to paintings. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that commonly known Artists of the past are mostly painters, Renoir, Monet, Degas, Van Gogh… Or maybe it’s because painting just looks like something we would like to be able to do. Let’s embrace that interest! This session I would like to give the students an opportunity to gain some painting experience.
Because there is so much to learn and do with painting, I’m going to limit us to acrylic painting. That means learning skill building with color mixing and brush techniques, as well as looking at different styles. But we will also learn surfaces to paint on, appropriate brushes, and paints to use.
I’m always having students tell me “I’m not good at drawing (or painting or whatever it is I’m showing them).” I always respond with “you’re not expected to be. That’s why I’m here… to teach you.” You don’t need to already know how. Whatever your skill level and experience I’ll help you.
